It is no wonder that Emilie is involved in the sport considering that both of her parents represented Canada in kayak. Her late father Jean Fournel competed at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and her mother Guylaine competed in Pan American Championships. She wears one of her father’s national team sweaters when she competes in Canadian qualifiers to bring her luck.
